VALENCIA, SPAIN (Day, Date, 2024) – The countdown to the third FIA Motorsport Games has reached a crucial milestone, with just one month remaining before the “Race of Nations” officially launches in Spain on 23 October.
Centred around the port city of Valencia on the country's Mediterranean coast, it will represent the third edition of the multi-disciplinary extravaganza following its successful debut in 2019 (Rome, Italy) and a dazzling second outing in 2022 (Marseille, France).
This year's event promises to deliver more than ever, beginning with an opening ceremony at the City of Arts and Sciences, a remarkable complex of modernist buildings located close to Valencia’s historic port.
A record 85 National Sporting Authorities (ASN) are expected to compete for medals. Many of the confirmed entrants will be attending their second or third FIA Motorsport Games, with around 40 having been present for all three editions. Others will participate for the first time, with a diverse group of newcomers traveling from Africa, Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania.
Indeed, one of the key aspects of the FIA Motorsport Games is the variety of competitors that the event is able to attract. This year’s hopefuls range from nations with a vast history in the sport to relative newcomers, whose participation can help to foster a new culture of motorsport that will flourish in years to come.
The third edition will see a major expansion in the number of categories, which grows from 16 to 27. The Rally discipline grows from three categories to 10, while further new additions come from GT Single-Make, Esports F4, Karting Mini and Cross Car Mini. Initially planned for the 2024 edition, Truck Racing will now be introduced at the fourth FIA Motorsport Games, though the category will have a demonstration presence at this year's event.
With such a range of disciplines, a variety of locations have been chosen to host the competitive action. Each of the five Circuit categories will be staged at Circuit Ricardo Tormo, an FIA Grade 1 track that was opened in 1999 and named in honour of the late world champion motorcycle racer Ricardo Tormo.
Karting Slalom and Auto Slalom also will be staged at the venue as well as Drifting – each discipline taking place on additional track layouts outside of the main circuit. The Rally action with 10 gold medals up for grabs will take place at Valencia’s Western Mountain and at Circuit Ricardo Tormo, while both Formula 4 and GT Esports competitions will be staged at the City of Arts and Sciences.
Off Road – which comprises Cross Car Senior, Cross Car Junior and Cross Car Mini – will compete at a brand-new track at the Aspar Circuit. Specially constructed for the event, this facility will leave a lasting legacy for the area long after the curtain has fallen on the 2024 FIA Motorsport Games. The Karting categories will also take place at the Aspar Circuit, using a bespoke layout of the venue's kart track.
