The FIA Motorsport Games KCMG Formula 4 competition got underway this morning, with Italy’s Andrea Kimi Antonelli heading the first official free practice session at Circuit Paul Ricard.
With 24 nations preparing to race for the honour of winning a gold medal under the colours of their country’s flag, the first free practice session presented the first opportunity to get to grips with the 5.8km French circuit.
Antonelli pushed his #3 KCMG Formula 4 entry to set the benchmark time of 2:08.127 on lap nine of the 45-minute session, placing him 0.4s ahead of second fastest, Portugal’s Manuel Espirito Santo.
Charlie Wurz, who makes his debut in the discipline after contesting Karting Slalom in the 2019 FIA Motorsport Games, clocked in third fastest ahead of Valentin Kluss. Representing Georgia, Sandro Tavartkiladze ranked fifth, just 0.021 ahead of Swiss driver Dario Cabanelas who in turn had only 0.06s in hand over Valentino Mini from Panama.
Bruni Del Pino Ventos (Spain) and Filip Jenic (Serbia) completed the top 10.
The KCMG Formula 4 action continues with the second free practice session scheduled for 14:55.
