The hugely popular category of Touring Cars will feature at the FIA Motorsport Games, as one of the 17 disciplines at the second edition of the event being held this October, 26-30, at Circuit Paul Ricard, France.
The category formed one of the six founding disciplines of the first-ever FIA Motorsport Games in 2019. Its popular return will allow National Sporting Authorities (ASNs) – member clubs of the FIA governing body of world motorsport – to enter one driver to compete for a gold, silver, or bronze medal under their country’s flag and colours.
Touring Cars will run to the World Sport Consulting (WSC) TCR Technical Regulations. Since TCR’s introduction in 2015, WSC has licensed the category to more than 30 championships and series worldwide, making it one of the world’s most successful customer racing platforms.
Nearly 1100 TCR racing cars from 15 manufacturers are eligible to take part in more than 300 TCR-sanctioned races every season, involving up to 700 drivers.
Like TCR, the FIA Motorsport Games competition will be based on a standard hatchback or saloon car powered by a two-litre turbocharged engine that delivers 350bhp. All cars have front-wheel drive, six-speed sequential gearbox with paddle-shift, aerodynamic kit, and bulging wings.
The inaugural Touring Car competition, previously known as the Touring Car Cup, produced a thrilling showdown at Vallelunga in 2019, where just two points separated the top two nations.
Alan Gow, FIA Touring Car Commission President, said: “The return of the FIA Motorsport Games, with Touring Cars on the bill, is great news. Twenty different National Sporting Authorities were represented in the inaugural edition of the Touring Car Cup back in 2019, but touring car racing continues to thrive at national and regional levels around the globe.
“This year, with the FIA Motorsport Games now a much-expanded event, the entry should be even stronger. So, I’m very much looking forward to showcasing touring car racing this October at Circuit Paul Ricard, with competitors carrying their national flags with pride.”
The FIA Motorsport Games Touring Car competition will begin on Saturday, October 29, with two 30-minute practice sessions in preparation for the big day on Sunday. A 30-minute qualifying session and a 25-minute +1lap qualifying race take place on Sunday morning, ahead of the main 30-minute +1lap race on Sunday afternoon to decide the medal-winning nations.
Entries for the 2022 FIA Motorsport Games opened on June 15 via the dedicated FIA registration platform. Competitors wishing to represent their country are encouraged to contact their respective National Sporting Authorities, a full list of which can be found here: fia.com/members/member_club/sport-mobility-3/member_club/sport-1
