The nation versus nation concept will see 18 countries going head-to-head in an array of stunning GT3 machinery, with the overall winners claiming GT racing’s newest and hugely coveted prize.
All entered cars meet FIA GT3 regulations, and will compete over two practice sessions, two qualifying sessions, two qualifying races, and a third and final race of sixty minutes to determine who will be taking home FIA GT Nations Cup honours.
Each car will be shared by one Silver and one Bronze-rated driver, with both holding a passport of the country they are representing, meaning national pride and glory is at stake.
This year’s inaugural edition impressively welcomes competitors from across Europe, Asia, Australasia, North America and South America. From Germany to Japan to Argentina – to name but a few – the sheer span of interest around the globe for this unique event is clear to see (full entry list here).
Not only does the FIA GT Nations Cup welcome 18 competing countries, but the line-up will also boast cars from seven GT manufacturer giants, with Audi, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Nissan, Mercedes, McLaren and Porsche cars all entered by some of the top racing teams in a bid for victory.
Organisers are expecting a strong crowd to descend on the 5.41km Bahrain International Circuit, but many more around the world will be able to watch the action LIVE.
The full timetable across Friday and Saturday can be seen here with the two Qualification Races and the final showdown being streamed on www.fia.com and www.fiagtnationscup.com and the FIA’s and FIA GT Nations Cup’s Facebook pages.
The prestigious FIA GT Nations Cup headlines a weekend of racing, which will feature around 60 cars in three exciting categories, with the GT4 International Cup and Bahrain Classic Challenge adding to the schedule.
Furthermore, McLaren Automotive has confirmed that its new 720S GT3 will make its global public debut as part of the festival, which will be demonstrated on the circuit as well as displayed in the paddock, ahead of its competitive introduction to racing over the coming weeks.
Aside from the on track action there will also be a host of family entertainment on offer for those in attendance, suggesting this event is set to become one of the most popular fixtures on the GT calendar.
Whilst fun and entertainment is of course key in Bahrain this weekend there is little doubting the main attraction. We await to see who will celebrating victory in the first FIA GT Nations Cup come Saturday evening.
