Dries Vanthoor put Team Belgium on pole position for this afternoon's GT Sprint race at Circuit Paul Ricard, which will close the 2022 FIA Motorsport Games.
The multiple Fanatec GT champion was in control from the start of the 20-minute qualifying session, ultimately posting a 2m01.112s at the wheel of his Audi R8 LMS GT3. This was the fastest track lap of the event thus far and put Vanthoor 0.315s clear of the Team Australia Porsche driven by Matt Campbell.
Luca Stolz was third in the Team Germany Mercedes-AMG, closely followed by 2018 FIA GT Nations Cup winner Ayhancan Güven in the Team Türkiye Porsche. Pre-event favourite Mirko Bortolotti could only manage fifth in the Team Italy Lamborghini, followed by Tristan Vautier in Team France's Mercedes-AMG. The biggest surprise of the session was Dani Juncadella, whose run of 2022 successes does not look likely to continue this weekend after the Team Spain Mercedes-AMG qualified 11th.
The one-hour GT Sprint race gets underway at 15:50 CET and will be streamed live on the FIA Motorsport Games YouTube channel.
