Team Germany confirmed for 16 disciplines at 2022 FIA Motorsport Games

Team Germany has revealed its intentions to enter 16 disciplines at the 2022 FIA Motorsport Games in October, 26-30 in Southern France.

The German Motor Sport Association has confirmed 22 athletes will compete under Germany’s flag for the second edition of the multidisciplinary event, where drivers compete to win gold, silver and bronze medals for their home nation.

Germany was one of the 49 nations that took part in the inaugural FIA Motorsport Games at Vallelunga, where they picked up a silver medal in Formula 4, with Niklas Krütten coming just 0.7-seconds short of the gold. Expanding its commitment from five disciplines in 2019 to 16 disciplines in the 2022 Games, Team Germany is hunting for more medals across the expanded competition.

The Germany squad confirmed to date already includes some well-known names across the echelons of motorsport.

Fresh from his second place finish at the TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa, Luca Stolz has since confirmed his entry to GT Sprint for Team Germany, again at the wheel of a Mercedes-AMG GT3. Fellow 24 Hours of Spa class winner in the Bronze Cup, Valentin Pierburg together with Lance David Arnold will contest GT in identical machinery.

At the other end of the motorsport spectrum, Germany will have representation in the new Auto Slalom category with Michelle Bläsius and Marcel Hellberg, and in Karting Slalom with Annika Spielberger and Sebastian Romberg. In the off-road Cross Car competitions, Samuel Drews will take on the Junior category, with the contestant for Cross Car Senior to be announced shortly.

Taking on the mantle for Germany’s Drifting effort, Gerson Junginger will be pushing for medals honours in his 2022 BMW Z3 Roadster. Germany will also have strong representation across the Rally categories, with Björn Satorius and Hanna Ostlender entering Rally2 in their Ford Fiesta MKII Rally2, René Noller and Stefan Kopczyk with their Opel Corsa Rally4, and Siegfried Mayr and Renate Mayr set for Historic Rally in their Volvo 244 GL.

Backing up Germany’s more experienced drivers will be new karting talent Mathilda Paatz in Karting Sprint Junior, and Maximilian Schleimer in Karting Sprint Senior. Whilst, in the virtual racing world, Nick Schulte-Wissermann will take on Esports.

Team Germany is also due to confirm further athletes to contest the Endurance, Formula 4, Esports and Touring Car disciplines shortly.

Jürgen Hieke, Team Germany Captain comments: “With 22 athletes in 16 disciplines, a large team will be competing for Germany at the second FIA Motorsport Games. We are delighted that we have been able to recruit young talents for Motorsport Team Germany in addition to experienced drivers. As in the last edition of the Motorsport Games, we want to be in the fight for the medals.”

Entries for the 2022 FIA Motorsport Games are open until Sunday, 25 September via the dedicated FIA registration platform.
