Mikail Hizal continues to set the pace in the Digital Cup, part of the inaugural FIA Motorsport Games.
The event winner in the FIA-certified Gran Tursimo World Championships was fastest of all in the practice session held yesterday and remained unbeaten in this afternoon’s qualifying that determined the line ups the tree semi-finals.
In both sessions the Digital Motor Sport racers used the Red Bull X2019 prototypes around Circuit de Catalunya.
Hizal recorded 1m:28.871, finishing ahead of another GT World Tour regular, Australia’s Cody Nikola Latkovsky, who was 0.4s off the German’s benchmark time.
The top three was completed by local ace Stefano Conte, who finished ahead of James Baldwin (UK), Tommy Østgaard (Norway), Benjamin Bader (Hungary), Marcin Świderek (Poland), Yi Teng (Chinese Taipei), Kriss Jaunzemis (Latvia) and Keith Dempsey of Ireland.
Based on the qualifying results, the competitors will be assigned to one of the three semi-finals that will mean a scenery change as the action will move to Interlagos, with the Fittipaldi EF7 replacing the Red Bull prototype.
This will be followed by the repechage race in for Pagani Zonda Rs at the Red Bull Ring in wet weather conditions.
The Grand Final for the 12 fastest digital racers will determine the bronze, silver and gold medalist of the Digital Cup. For the medal decided the action will return to Barcelona and the Red Bull’s X2019 machinery.
Scheduled to start at 20:00 local, the 19-lap Grand Final will be livestreamed on FIA Motorsport Games’ website and Facebook page, as well as at fia.com.
